The Christmas Rush

Today is my last day here, and since it has been quite some time since I have filled you in, this entry is going to be a bit longer than the others. The weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas have been incredibly busy, and I have been working on plenty of fun projects.

A lot of my time has been spent on a variety of writing projects, which include hiring and promotion press releases, newsletter articles and bios. One of the best things about this internship is you have so many opportunities to strengthen your writing skills by writing a variety of pieces. I feel much more confident in my writing abilities after only four months here.

Last week I had the opportunity to sit in on a key message session for one of our clients, and it was a very interesting experience. The key message session involves meeting with 8-12 members of an organization and learning as much about their organization as possible. We then take the information they provided and formulate a “map” that enables those in the organization to quickly identify the messages they want to communicate. It’s great to be pulled into special projects such as a key message session because it helps give you a broad perspective of every aspect of public relations.

The past few months have flown by and it has been a wonderful learning experience. Everyone at Eisbrenner PR genuinely wants you to succeed, and they are more than willing to help in any way they can. Along with that, the variety of projects you work on builds a foundation that cannot be found in any classroom.

Although it would be difficult to choose just one part of the internship I enjoyed the most, the fact that you are not merely the intern is high on my list. You have the power to make the internship whatever it is you want. That means you are a valued team member, and you can be involved in any project, with a hands on role.

Thanks for reading and have a wonderful holiday season!

P.S. - As graduation is quickly approaching, I found this article that sheds some light on how to succeed as a young professional. A lot of the points he made hit home with me, and hopefully you will also find it beneficial.
